Oven is a thermally insulated chamber used for heating, baking, or drying a substance. Most of them are used to making food, but there are other special type of oven that are used to make pottery and metalworking. Baking have come a long way since ancient times. The earliest oven were found in Central Europe and dated to 29.000 BC. People at that time are using it to cook mammoth by roasting and boiling them. Oven was first created in 1940, at that time open fires were used to cook and heat up the food. People in Ukraine from 20.000 BC used pits with hot coals covered in ashes, and the food were place at the top of the coal and then it is buried with earth.
In culinary history the Greeks are the one who was first developing bread baking techniques. They made a front-loaded bread ovens. They also created a lot variety of dough and shapes, they try to serve bread with other kind of cuisines. At that time people start to treat baking as a profession. In the early part of the 19th century, coal ovens were developed, it was made from iron in a cylindrical shape. The first electric ovens were invented at that period of time too, but does not become prominent until the late 1920 when the electricity technology improved. The first patent for an electric oven was issued in 1896 to William Hadaway, who also designed the first Westinghouse toaster. There are few type of ovens which are commonly used these days, such as toaster oven and convection oven.
Toaster oven is a small ovens with a front door, a wired rack and baking pan which can be removed. The oven itself is powered by electricity and commonly shaped like a box with the measurements ranges from 41 cm x 20 cm to 51 cm x 25 cm. the price may vary based on the brand and additional features. The oven usually comes with a timer to control the time when cooking, when the times goes off the oven will switch off by itself. When toasting bread in the oven you can place the sliced bread on the rack horizontally or if you want to make a toast with toppings like garlic bread or cheese toast you can place the sliced bread horizontally with the toppings on top. Compare to a regular toaster the bread toasted in toaster oven will have drier taste than bread toasted in a toaster, because the heating elements are located farther from the bread. It also will take a longer time to toast a bread with oven toaster, regular toaster may done it in 2-3 minutes, with oven toaster it will take up about 4-6 minutes.
Convection oven also known for fan-assisted oven or fan oven, is an oven that has fans in it to circulate the hot air inside the oven chamber, regulating it around the food, removing the cooler air surrounding the food to cook it more evenly and faster even when cooked in a lower temperature compared to regular oven. The first person known in history to use fans to circulate air inside an oven was Maxson Whirlwind in 1945. The convection oven is a great way to roast foods like meat and vegetable, they can be cooked faster and will have a good crispy skin and caramelized exterior. Pies and pastries are also good when baked with convection oven, the heat inside the oven can make a steam faster which will helps in creating more lift in pie dough and pastries like croissants. When using convection oven first pay attention to the heat, low the temperature by 25®F. Second is checking your food three-quarters of the recommended cooking time because food in convection oven will cook faster.

Toaster oven and convection oven are easy to differentiate with just the look and appearance, since the convection oven size are far bigger than toaster oven. Toaster oven only runs on electricity while convection oven can runs on electricity as well as gas. The main purpose of these two oven are also different, examples when you are making toast it is recommended to use toaster oven instead convection oven since the bread will cook a lot faster in toaster oven or when you want to heat up food in a small amount, it is better to use toaster oven. But when you want to broil, roasting, or making pastries it is recommended to use convection oven. Convection oven are definitely pricier compare to a toaster oven and it is not recommended using convection oven when baking goods that require moisture since it will dry out baked goods. The limitation of toaster oven are, it takes longer time to heat up and cook, also the small size make us only can cook for a small amount of food. Toaster oven also can’t be used to make food such as rice or boiling something.
